Choose extraction when you want selected pages together in one new PDF. Choose splitting when you want separate PDF files. The distinction matters: a ZIP containing individual pages is different from a single document you can upload or email.
Choose the result before selecting pages
- One page as a PDF: select that page and extract it.
- Several pages together: select them and export the selection as one PDF.
- Each page as its own PDF: use the separate-PDF export and save the ZIP.
- The whole document with a few pages removed: delete the unwanted pages and export what remains.
Adobe’s page extraction documentation describes extraction as reusing pages from one PDF in another. The steps below describe Filestation’s own visual workflow.
Select thumbnails instead of typing ranges
Open Extract PDF pages, choose the document and review the page thumbnails. Select the pages you need. A PDF’s fifth page is not necessarily the page labelled “5”: covers and introductory pages can shift the count. Check the visible content, not just a number.
Use the thumbnail controls to change the order when necessary. If your selection is spread throughout the file, revisit each selected thumbnail before exporting. Do not assume a chapter ends exactly where its printed page number suggests.
Export one selected document
Use Extract selected, or choose selected pages and PDF document in the export centre. Give the output a descriptive name, prepare the result and save it. Open the saved file and confirm that it contains only the intended pages in the intended order.
Your original stays on your device. Extraction creates a new working copy; keep both until you know you no longer need the full document.
Export separate PDF files
For individual files, use Split PDF or the Separate PDFs (ZIP) export. Open the downloaded archive on your device to access its PDFs. If an upload field accepts only PDF, select a PDF from inside the extracted archive rather than trying to submit the ZIP.
A ZIP export is one generated result for Filestation’s guest download allowance. It may contain multiple PDFs, so check the filenames and page contents before distributing them.
Delete, combine or rotate when the job changes
Use Delete PDF pages when you want the rest of the document without selected pages. Use Merge PDF when pages from another file need to join the final document. For a fuller walkthrough, read how to merge and reorder PDFs.
What should I check after exporting?
Review every retained page, orientation and any annotations or interactive content you need. Editing can affect existing digital signatures. The appearance of a signed page is not proof that its digital signature remains valid.
Does extraction remove all sensitive information?
No such guarantee is made. Selecting pages is an organization task, not a complete privacy audit. If a retained page contains private content, read why hiding text is not secure redaction before sharing it.
